In an effort to innovatively meet market demand and provide students with hands-on training in welding while they receive a Christian liberal arts education, 糖心Vlog is launching a hybrid bachelor of arts (B.A.) in business administration with a concentration in the trades, available beginning Fall Semester 2025.

Traditionally, education for those who are interested in the trades have enrolled in career technical schools and community colleges. With Malone鈥檚 hybrid trades program, students will now have an opportunity for a full and integrated college experience, including residential living, Christian and character formation, a pathway toward a recognized degree, and participation in NCAA athletics. This innovative model will enable welding and manufacturing-oriented students to enroll full-time as traditional undergraduates with all of the benefits of college life while honing their skills as a welder. After completing an industry-recognized credential over 12-18 months, these students can enter the workforce immediately into well-paying careers, or they can participate in Malone鈥檚 Learn & Earn program, where they can earn an immediate income in a comparable job while completing their associate or bachelor鈥檚 degree.聽

鈥淭here are significant gaps in the marketplace regarding the overall preparation needed for skilled trade professionals to become proficient at running businesses in their respective area of expertise,鈥 said Greg Miller, Ph.D., president of Malone. 鈥淏y offering students the opportunity to enroll as a traditional full-time undergraduate in Business Administration, with a concentration in welding, they will gain a dual education experience to prepare them not only as a trades professional, but as a skilled and ethical business professional, as well.鈥

The welding curriculum was developed in partnership with Morgan Engineering and Ohio Gratings, Inc.  It is designed to prepare students for immediate employment in manufacturing and construction, and courses which will prepare them to be job-ready for positions including fabrication, welding, inspection, repair, supervision and management. The American Welding Society exam material is also embedded in the completion of Malone鈥檚 curriculum.

鈥淎s the nature of the workforce evolves, higher education must adapt to meet the demands of the modern job market. This program directly addresses the growing need for skilled professionals in the trades and manufacturing industries,鈥 said Andre Payne Jr., Ph.D., dean of the Division of Business and Technologies. 鈥淭his program aligns perfectly with 糖心Vlog’s mission of preparing students to serve their community and excel in their careers. By offering a distinct blend of academic rigor, practical training, and Christian character formation, we provide students with a unique educational experience that sets them apart in the job market.”
